Near Shot in the Arm


Before anyone had heard of COVID-nineteen, filmmaker Scott Hamilton Kennedy (THE GARDEN, Food EVOLUTION) began investigating the global measles epidemic. Filming with top public wellness officials–including Tony Fauci–as well every bit rare interviews with anti-vaccine activists who were persuading parents by the millions to reject vaccines for their children.

Then COVID-19 happened.

Acting quickly, Kennedy shifted his directorial center to this once-in-a-century tragedy. Both skeptical and hopeful, SHOT IN THE ARM explores vaccine hesitancy historically and in the context of our modernistic pandemic. Can we supervene upon cynicism with healthy marvel and hopefully bridge the political divides that make us sick?

About the Guests


SCOTT HAMILTON KENNEDY (Director, Producer)

Academy Honor® nominee Scott Hamilton Kennedy is a writer, director, producer, cameraman, editor, and founder of Blackness Valley Films.

His documentary work includes Oscar nominated The Garden, Independent Spirit Honor Nominee OT: Our Boondocks, and the critically acclaimed Fame High.

Scott's previous documentary, Nutrient Evolution, narrated by the esteemed science communicator Neil deGrasse Tyson, uses the controversy and confusion effectually GMOs to highlight the importance of using the scientific method to assist everyone – from parents to politicians – make amend food and agricultural decisions.

Scott's most recent documentary, Shot In The Arm, began in 2019 as an exploration of record breaking measles outbreaks around the world, and the disinformation that helped offset that epidemic… and so COVID-19 happened. And Scott plant himself in a unique position to tell the story of 'the virus under the virus:' the virus of disinformation, conspiracies and anti-science.

DR. PAUL A. OFFIT, MD

Paul A. Offit, Dr., is Director of the Vaccine Education Center and professor of pediatrics in the Segmentation of Infectious Diseases at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He is the Maurice R. Hilleman Professor of Vaccinology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the Academy of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Offit is an internationally recognized good in the fields of virology and immunology, and was a member of the Informational Committee on Immunization Practices to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is a member of the Nutrient and Drug Administration Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, and a founding informational board fellow member of the Autism Science Foundation and the Foundation for Vaccine Research, a fellow member of the Establish of Medicine and co-editor of the foremost vaccine text, Vaccines.

Paul has been working with Scott on SHOT IN THE ARM since the jump of 2019.

Outside the Box [Office] is a weekly showcase for upcoming releases highlighting world cinema, documentary and independent flick titles. The series draws from effectually the globe to nowadays movies that may challenge, inspire or but entertain.

Check-In & Reservations


This screening is free of charge and open to the public. A reservation confirmation volition automatically be sent to your electronic mail account upon successfully making an RSVP through this website. Doors will open at 2:00 P.Yard.

All SCA screenings are OVERBOOKED to ensure seating capacity in the theater, therefore seating is non guaranteed based on RSVPs. The RSVP list will exist checked in on a first-come, first-served basis until the theater is total. Once the theater has reached chapters, we volition no longer exist able to admit guests, regardless of RSVP status.

The USC Robert Zemeckis Middle is located at 3131 South Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA 90007, one cake north of Parking Construction D, on the North side of the Shrine Auditorium. The RZC entrance is located at the rear of the building, behind the cherry-red fence on 32nd St.
