Greek Tycoon, Jeb seduces young, naïve Phoebe. She becomes pregnant and he wigs out, but sadly, she loses the babe, so that'southward that- until they run into again five years subsequently, and Jeb discovers Phoebe has a son who bears a striking resemblance to him.

The original Harlequin Presents novel by Jacqueline Baird was published in 2010. I simply so happens that I constitute a copy of it at Scribd, so I checked it out, before reading this Manga version.

The basic story is intact, and once again, the artwork outshines the dialogue. Merely, all in all, this story isn't half bad. If yous empathize what to wait when you read HP novel, then you should observe this one to exist on par with anything else published in this line.

Jeb is an arrogant jerk, merely Phoebe grows a backbone. They run hot, then cold, then finally get all their secrets out in the open and live happily ever later. This ane did accept a nice twist in it though, which was pretty clever.

Overall, the story is boilerplate, but the fine art is amazing!!

The author of the novel, Jacqueline Baird , should take added some additional spice to the story because bated from the secret baby, there are no other other twists that will enchant readers. I'g only giving this ii stars because of how quite ordinary the plot is and that in that location's nix more than beyond it. However, I still praise the manga illustrator, Keiko Yamada, for making a skillful chore in this manga adaptation.

Phoebe was just a hotel receptionist when she caught the heart of the Greek millionaire, Jed. He showered affection and presents upon her, so pleased was he that She Wasn't Similar Other Women™ (due east.one thousand. crafty, money-grubbing harlots). All that changed, however, when Phoebe told Jed she was pregnant. What does this prize do? Tells her nobody wants a meaning mistress and so offers to "take care of" her state of affairs. She says a big "to hell with that" and runs abroad, only in her clumsiness, she trips and falls and ends up miscarrying.

Secret baby romances all seem to have the same plot. Rich guy and ordinary girl have passionate fling, pregnant girl flees, rich guy finds out after the fact and uses his impressive resources to intimidate daughter into letting him back into his life. This book had a nearly identical plot to another Harlequin manga I recently read, WHEN FALCONE'S Globe STOPS TURNING. Only that hero was Italian, not Greek. (I guess Greece and Italian republic's populations are, similar, xc% millionaires?)

This wasn't a bad book. I thought Jed was a jerk but he sort of redeemed himself past the end. I feel like almost of the heroes' issues in these Harlequin Presents books boil downwards to Sad Male child Mommy Bug™, which makes me wonder if Oedipus is mandatory reading if you want to exist penning these tawdry little 100 Calorie Packs of drama. I was wondering how, if the heroine had a miscarriage, she even so had a baby to spirit away and the book threw me a total curveball: she was carrying fraternal twins and only miscarried one of the fetuses. Apparently it's rare, but this can happen(?).

I liked FALCONE better, just the art in this was aces, and so I'm non mad at SABBIDES.

Thanks to Netgalley/the publisher for the review copy!

Though to exist honest I'm not sure either of them sympathise what words hateful. You say to a girl who'south pregnant "I'll talk to a doctor I know" later on coldly accusing her of being a grasping, gold digging harlot...yes I can meet how she'd recall yous meant Abortion.

On the same token, if a guy legit says and acts like he means "I would never have suggested that!" maybe give him so do good of doubtfulness before deciding he's manipulating you to steal the kid yous've hidden from him for four years.

Otherwise this was pretty standard fare - slightly jealous third party, some more miscommunication and tearful confessions. Oh and ailing nigh death parent who is the reason misunderstandings occurred.

When Phoebe met Jed Sabbides she was a new graduate working at the front desk of a hotel. She was an ambitious hardworking immature woman and he was a rat bastard but she didn't know it at the fourth dimension. She initially rejected all his advances merely eventually she fell for his charms and she cruel in beloved. Some time later on she fell meaning and Jed saw this as a programme to get his wealth.

That was because Jed was an idiot!

Anyway Jed liked her. He had given her a car, jewels, holidays and was keeping her in his flat. (nice life if you can get it). Unfortunately that isnt what she wanted because she wanted to exist loved, not to exist treated like a peice of meat!

I felt outraged on her behalf!

Because Jed was a rat bastard he arranged for her to have an abortion but before this could have place she had a miscarriage and so he took care of her thinking that they would continue where they left off.

I told you lot he was an idiot and selfish besides!

Phoebe had realised that Jed was treating her like 'slice on the side'. He had never introduced her to his family unit or friends, and then she took off and ran away from London to her home town in Devon. I didn't know that people ran away to countryside places. I always idea that people ran to the anonymity of big cities.

I stand corrected!

Anyway when she left she took all the jewellry, the auto and the gifts Jed had given her. I cheered for her.

You become gurl!

5 years afterwards Phoebe is attending a party at the Greek embassy (as yous do) and who should she crash-land into? Yes you guessed it. Jed the rat and he had no shame. Afterward mistreating her he tried to throw shade simply she only batted that abroad with style and poise.

Atta gurl!

Unfortunately Jed becomes intrigued and decides to nosy into Phoebe's by. She is now living in Devon, teaching and she has a child who looks just like him.

Then Jed is hit with the truth. The child is his!

And so the drama started and I wanted Phoebe to throw Jed's arrogant arse into the brig! But this is a romance story then she didn't.

This was great and very entertaining. I am a sucker for romances with cute children especially when the child has big cute manga optics. I liked the way Phoebe held her own and didn't let Jed button her effectually. Evidently this is a romance and then Jed becomes a good guy and you have a lovely happy ending, merely the journeying to get to that point makes a good story.

Ok some of the story was a flake exaggerated. No hospital in this country is going to requite a perfect stranger another person's health records. Hello GDPR, data protection etc etc, but this doesn't backbite from the drama of the story.

I really like manga romances. They are then well drawn and they bring the story to life. This was some other expert i to read, particularly on a common cold rainy Baronial twenty-four hour period. Information technology might be an irritatingly cold August day instead of a hot one, but with a good story indoors the reader can ignore the elements and unseasonal conditions outside. This story makes it easy to practice that.

The story falls into the regular tropes of harlequin state and it does not deviate much with the mistress, pregnancy, the secret baby and the blackmail hymeneals and groveling subsequently. Also why practise the single mother's in harlequin land of a sudden forget they have children when they are forced into marriage?

I received this volume from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

And the 2nd Harlequin manga. Oh my. This fourth dimension most a sweetness daughter and a rich guy. She gets significant (considering she forgot her pills (how?)), and he doesn't want it. Years later they meet once more. Yep, you can already imagine the dramarama, the romance, and of course tons of other things that will probably brand your eyes rolls.

*snorts* "I'grand an old friend of your mama'southward. Jed Sabbides. I'k Greek." I am sorry, did nosotros even enquire you lot about your nationality?

Also the pregnancy thing was just, I am so so sorry, I feel terrible for saying this. Only it was hilarious and so typical of Harlequin stuff. I already had a suspicion something would take happened because come up on, there is no style she would just lose her baby without something extra happening.

Dude, no, no, no. You can't simply throw a girl on the sofa and endeavour to woo her with sex. Eww, bro, no. *shakes her head in cloy*

Plus I hated how he merely inserted himself in his kid's life. Without regard to Phoebe on her feelings. Male child, you lot said all that crap, you lot left her, and now you find out she has a child you want to go back? You don't have no? Delight. Urgh. I hated what he told Phoebe's kid. That is a determination she should make. That is something she should tell her kid. Non him. And then he is also making all sorts of remarks on how she cares for her child, in the three days since he met them. Boy, please, just become jump of a cliff. Urghhhh. And he forces her to take Ben with her to Greece, or else he will fight her in court. You lot whut mate? That is not how you care for people. As well the whole marriage thing? Boy, eww, no, that is just style to creepy.

But of form we are supposed to feel distressing for Jed, considering all that happened wasn't his fault and yadadada, really? Deplorable, no.

In the finish information technology was quite cute, but information technology just felt then forced, and so unnatural. Plus I just couldn't go Jed's creepiness out of my head.

The art in this one was way better than the previous one, fifty-fifty if Jed e'er looked similar some hungry predator to me.

All in all, non as a large as a success like the other Harlequin manga. But will I be checking out other Harlequin manga should they become available? Oh hell yes. Sorry, for some reason I want more. I gauge I tin can run across why people read these books. They are quite addicting.

Something about this rubbed me the incorrect way. I like the secret child trope as a plot device when information technology includes substantial grapheme development, just in the instance of this manga, the gist (view spoiler)[is a communication error that results in broken hearts and the woman forgiving the human being for everything by giving him a take chances to evidence he's different when ALL he does is continue to repeat the aforementioned mistakes, and that (hide spoiler)] is what nearly every woman in the history of women has fought against. I mean, patriarchy, anyone?

I really liked Phoebe and believed her to exist a female lead with agency until she abased everything she was and began to act like a lovesick teenager again, which doesn't add up for me considering she'due south the mother of a kid, i.e. she has real adult responsibilities and accepting a man who forces his way into her life every bit "dearest" and "inverse" is really crap. Not once does Phoebe engage in the inner reflections of "okay, so, I love him, only his insistent pressuring is not a healthy relationship to have effectually my child". She vomited his words back at him twice, only never one time addresses the real problem of having a toxic human around her son, regardless of him being the father.

I don't know if information technology went down similar this because it needed to stick to the story at hand or because of a page count limit, or a combination of both. I didn't similar the story, and it saddens me considering Once again, I LOVE THIS TROPE because at that place is so much opportunity for fluff and tugging at readers' heartstrings. Jed is the kind of character that should accept experienced major character development, but instead at that place was zero character development. Mostly speaking, the story felt rushed and similar the goal of everything was to become these two characters, who have next to zero in common until their child happens, together. It portrays an calumniating man who gets whatever he wants and isn't lectured nigh it once.

The merely affair worth admiring about information technology is the art.

Following the 'cloak-and-dagger baby' trope closely, this feels a fleck more than unrealistic than others and unsurprisingly formulaic. A Greek tycoon improbably named Jed and a naive (is there any other?) heroine in Phoebe create a rather banal and somewhat unmemorable romance.

Phoebe meets Jed while working at a hotel as a receptionist. They striking it off, he gives her cars, jewelry, and a fancy apartment, and she finds herself falling for the billionaire. Merely when she tells him she is pregnant, he instantly assumes she is trying to trap him into union. When an accident causes a miscarriage, she leaves and starts a new life. Simply unbeknownst to Jed, one of the twins survived. When he chances upon her once again several years later, he instantly recognizes the child every bit being his offspring - and he knows he has to have Phoebe back in his life with their child.

As noted, most of the secret baby trope is here: alpha male, billionaire, sweet adult female thinking she is saving her child from a loveless begetter, and the family unit that reveals the billionaire is actually a sweet guy who got a bad impression on beloved from one of his relatives. Most of the book is our alpha male will force everything on our poor heroine all in the guise of taking back his lost heir.

The artwork was fine - most what I would expect from 2000 era inspired manga art. The characters were unique looking, easy to tell apart, and the panels told the story fine. Reviewed from an accelerate reader re-create provided by the publisher.

This was a beautiful fiddling book which has basically the aforementioned accidental pregnancy plots that seem recycled from 6 months ago. There is something comforting about this - like going into a McDonalds and knowing exactly what yous will go and what you like.

The plot is basically about how the heroine fell pregnant and due to some jerk similar behaviour from the hero leaves him (he basically tells her to abort the baby - though this turns out to exist a misunderstanding. This is probably a spoiler only I am telling you this upfront equally I spent quite a scrap of fourth dimension wanted to striking the 'hero' and then hopefully this helps).

Anyhow, she has the babe and the hero eventually finds out and blackmails himself back into her life and becomes a dad. There is too something about twins and how she miscarries only 1 merely I honestly didn't follow that too much.

By and large the plot is serviceable fifty-fifty though the hero skates close to the douchebag territory for me to really like this.

I rated this three stars in the end due to the interesting art - it felt very anime-like with pointy chins and big eyes. And some of the detailing was lovely.

Yet, this is something really off with the translation. For example, our heroine calls the hero a "carnivorous beast" and that "he is very precious to me". It seems to exist very literal translation and doesn't feel natural.

Scout out for that when reading this but overall a beautiful read.
